HCC becomes India’s first ‘Water Positive’ infrastructure company

  • Company’s Sustainability Report receives GRI A+ for sixth consecutive year

In a significant milestone on its Sustainability journey, Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) Limited has become India’s first ‘Water Positive’ infrastructure company.

This year, HCC has undertaken an external initiative of rejuvenating an old irrigation canal on Mhalungiriver in Sinner district of Maharashtra besides its efforts to conserve water within operations by reducing, reusing, recycling and replenishing water. This external initiative has helped the company to become water positive. HCC is among Ten Indian Companies and the only Indian infrastructure company to become ‘Water Positive’.

Besides, HCC’s Sustainability Report has received GRI Application Level A+ for the sixth consecutive year. The report has been prepared according to the GRI G3.1 and CRESS Guidelines.  The Sustainability Report is in line with ‘National Voluntary Guidelines on Social, Environmental and Economic Responsibilities of Business’ (NVGs), as released by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs in July 2011. Additionally, this report is inclusive of its seventh consecutive annual Communication on Progress (COP) for the United Nations Global Compact’s CEO Water Mandate Initiative, covering the same reporting period.

Ajit Gulabchand, Chairman and Managing Director, HCC Group, said “We recognize our business aspirations are closely interlinked with India’s environmental balance sheet. For us, Responsible Infrastructure means sustainable utilization of natural resources, world class safety provisions at all our project sites and supporting the creation of resilient and sustainable communities, while continuing to meet the nation’s infrastructure needs in an innovative and efficient manner”.
