Our CSR Activities:

Sitaram Jindal Foundation (SJF), erstwhile S.J.Jindal Trust was established in 1969 by Dr.Sitaram Jindal.

Dr.Jindal is one of the founders of Jindal Group of Industries, and also the Founder and Chairman of Jindal Aluminium Limited, Bangalore. Initially, the Sitaram Jindal Trust was founded out of personal funds of Dr.Jindal, and thus was a natural expression of his philanthropic mind and his urge to serve the social causes.

Ever since the Foundation was established, it has been silently promoting and providing the basic needs of the weaker section of the society. The activities encompassed a varied array of human services – education, healthcare and vocational training. Dr.Jindal was keenly interested in women’s empowerment through education and hence the much needed infrastructure development too came along.

Over the years, a huge number of indigents belonging to the weaker section of the society have been benefited through projects undertaken by the Foundation directly. Additionally, a host of charitable institutions, schools, colleges, vocational training centres, hospitals, old age homes, orphanages etc., have received financial aid and other assistance including technical supervision and advice throughout the country through Jindal Aluminium Limited (JAL)/Associate Trusts/Societies.

Today SJF is one of the leading NGOs of not only Bangalore but also India, without political, religious or commercial affiliation. It serves the humanity irrespective of caste, creed, colour or religion.  SJF has only one source of inflow of funds, which is from Jindal Aluminium Limited and that too comes strictly as per need. The Foundation and its associate trusts/societies carry on a host of charitable activities as under:

Promoting Education:

Since one of the parameters that determine a nation’s progress is its educated and skilled human capital, SJF took on priority the responsibility of imparting quality education by way of establishing schools, colleges and industrial training institutes. Further, realising the dire need of education for the poorer section of the society in rural areas, SJF has set up Jindal Public School which is providing subsidised educational facilities to about 1800 students with free midday meals.

SJF has also established High School, Degree College and ITI in village Nalwa, the Founder’s native place in Haryana, way back in 1980 to enable the rural children get higher and quality education at affordable cost.

SJF is also extending financial support in the form of scholarships to deserving candidates who would have otherwise discontinued their studies. About 15,000 students are benefitted every year with scholarship amounts ranging between Rs.500 and Rs.3,700 per month depending upon the course of study.

SJF is also running a book donation scheme for the benefit of the poor students and nearly 300 colleges have been benefitted so far with this scheme.

Women Empowerment:

It has always been our endeavour to empower women by providing them academic education as well as vocational training. We believe that Women Empowerment is essential to make the society and the world a better place to live in. SJF has taken following steps in this connection:

SJF has set up Jindal Pre University College and Jindal College for Women specially to provide opportunity to the rural female students residing in nearby villages to pursue higher education. These colleges impart quality education in computer science, commerce and arts courses. The strength is about 1700 students and result has been 98% passes with more than 90% students securing first class.

SJF has also set up Mahila Arts and Crafts Charitable Institute (MACCI) in Bangalore to impart vocational skills to women from rural areas with poor economic background. The institute offers various certificate courses ranging between 3 and 6 months duration which enables them get suitable jobs to become economically independent. Stipend is being paid to the trainees by SJF during their training period. About 800 women are getting trained from two such institutions in Bangalore every year.

A women’s hostel is being constructed by SJF in the prestigious Indian Institute of Science (Tata Institute) at a cost of Rs.20 crores.

Health Care:

SJF believes that health is wealth and hence, we do not leave any stone unturned in providing quality health services to those who cannot afford. SJF is managing the following activities:

  1. Jindal Naturecure Institute: Established in 1979 by its Founder, Dr.Sitaram Jindal, the institute is a drugless health care hospital offering treatment for lifestyle related non-infectious diseases through detoxification of the body. The Institution uses naturopathy, yoga, diet, acupuncture and physiotherapy to heal the condition of the patient. Presently, the Institute has a bed strength of 550, out of which more than 50% is dedicated to the economically weaker sections of the society.
  1. Manav Charitable Hospital, Bangalore (Tumkur Road): A well-equipped mainstream charitable allopathy hospital, primarily meant for BPL patients, which cater approx 1800 to 2000 patients a day. The hospital is fully equipped with ultra-modern diagnostic facilities like CT Scan, Ultrasound, X Ray, Lab, 2D Echo, Feco emulsifier with advanced operating microscope etc. It also has eye OTs with a retina section and conducts a substantial number of cataract operations every day. On an average 450-500 eye surgeries are conducted per month without any charges. Consultation and all essential medicines are given free of cost to the patients.
  1. Jindal Charitable Hospital, Bangalore City: Started in 1987, it caters to 500 urban poor out-patients per day with free medical consultation and medicine. The hospital is equipped with X-ray, ECG, Ultrasound, Minor OT, physiotherapy and acupuncture facilities. Consultation and medicines are given free of cost to the patients.
  1. Mobile Dispensaries (mobile vans): Manav Charitable Hospital renders free medical services through its 6 mobile vans of which 2 are specialised in ophthalmology and dental care. These mobile vans cover about 120 villages in a week and treat more than 1000 patients a day at their door step.
  1. Bansal Charitable Polyclinic, Delhi: Established in 2001 at Delhi, it is a day care polyclinic and serves with consultation and medicine to around 500 patients per day without charges.

Donations:

The Foundation extends help by providing funds and facilities to other organisations as well, provided their vision documents are transparent and are working for the welfare of the poorer section or towards the overall betterment of society. For instance, a number of NGOs for women upliftment in Bangalore and NGOs for education for the needy have received funds and other help in promoting their cause. About 650 charitable organisations receive such donations every year.

Free meals:

SJF is contributing to serve the midday meals to more than 7000 school children through ISKCON, Bangalore.

The Foundation, following the footsteps of Indira Canteen and Amma Canteen run by state governments, is also running two meal distribution centres namely “Jan Bhojanalaya” in Bangalore. These Jan Bhojanalayas are serving nutritious food to more than 2000 people daily without any cost.

SJF runs a continuous process to reach out to people who are in need of help, and whichever way an opportunity comes, SJF will lend its support most humbly and surely to the best of its ability.
