Value and prestige: Core essence for executing projects

Ashoka Buildcon’s portfolio comprises of BOT, Hybrid Annuity and EPC based projects. The factor that has played a very important role in our success is our ability to take up and complete challenging projects.

  1. What made you stand today at this position? How you mark your greatest achievements?

Ashoka Buildcon’s journey is marked by its diversification into the right sectors at the right time. We have always been able to acquire a first mover advantage. This has given us the privilege to explore new opportunities and do things in ways that have not been tried earlier.

To quote an example, during 1995 when the Government was inviting private players to invest in public private partnerships in highway’s development, there were hardly any companies interested. We came forward and became one of the first entrants into the segment. Today, highway development is one of the most booming sectors and we are among the leading players in it.

Similarly we moved into Power Distribution with anticipation that it would be the need of the hour and would sooner or later gain momentum. As we can see, today rural electrification has become an important part of the National Agenda and we are already executing prestigious projects across various states in the Country.

Another factor that has played a very important role in our success is our ability to take up and complete challenging projects. This has been possible due to our integrated business model.  We have established control across the entire value chain of project execution. We are sound in terms of funds, technology, human resources as well as R&D. A railway over bridge which we have completed in only 100 working days, on the prestigious eastern peripheral expressway, is a recent example of our project execution capabilities. Similarly, the two bridges we constructed in Rupnarayan River were projects that no construction company was willing to accept. We completed them 18 months ahead of scheduled completion date using methods that were not implemented earlier in the Indian bridge construction industry.

  1. Share with us your product segments and how you see your business developing and expanding in the next 5 years?

Our portfolio comprises of BOT, Hybrid Annuity and EPC based projects. We have a healthy order book of Rs.6 billion and all our projects are running as per schedule. Amongst the prestigious projects being executed by us is the Eastern Peripheral Expressway around Delhi, road construction work at JNPT, etc.

We find that in the near future, highways as well as power sector will have immense opportunities to offer. We shall continue to strengthen our position in these sectors. We have recently entered into City Gas Distribution segment where we see good growth potential.

  1. How do you look up to the changes coming in the Indian Economy? How your company is planning its future investments?

There is no denying the fact that Indian economy is undergoing a positive change. We believe that not just the central government, but all the state governments are focusing on infrastructure sector which will unleash the dormant potential of areas that currently do not have infrastructural support. Based on this analysis, we will continue to invest our efforts in infrastructure segments and participate in the development of our Country.

  1. How do you see the company changing in five years, and how do you see yourself creating that change?

We feel that our business plan is headed as planned and we will continue to follow it. The only change is in terms of expansion as the government has opened up plenty of opportunities in the sector.
