Rajesh Kawoor - Sr. Vice President (Universal Heavy Engineering Division), Universal Construction Machinery & Equipment Ltd.; talks about recently launched much anticipated Heavy Engineering Division and objective to provide better products with better service and technology.
Q 1.) There is a lot of talk about GDP growth rate slump and lingering impact of demonetization. So, amidst that entire backdrop how has the business performance of Universal construction been so far this year and what is the impact of Demonetization and GST in construction equipment industry?
The business is normal for Universal till now. There were some issues due to demonitization, but these lasted for very short period. We have seen that the impact of demonetization and GST has not affected the Construction Equipment Industry severely. There were some delays in execution and these delays were not so serious. However now the equipment Industry is already on the right Track and we hope that the growth will be positive in near future.
Q 2.) Tell us about company’s versatile product line? Is there any product proposed to be launched soon?
Universal caters to the construction industry by providing multiple construction equipment. Universal provides Small, Medium and Larger range of products for Concrete and Material handling.Universal has recently launched the Heavy Engineering Division which will manufacture and supply Bigger capacity Concrete Batching and Mixing Plants of 45 Cum/Hr. to 240 Cum/Hr. This division is also planning to add some more higher capacity construction equipment to its portfolio.
Q 3.) What are the measures that company takes to keep up and maintain excellent customer support and service?
At Universal we give highest priority to serve the Customers. Universal has setup various offices across India to serve the customers locally. Universal also have a large dealer network across India. We have service vans to attend the customers within shortest possible time. Customers calls are attended on top priority immediately near our office/dealer locations. If any travel is required to attend the customer then the service is provided within 24 hours. We also arrange for classroom as well as on site training to operators, technicians/engineers of customers. We also arrange seminars for customers to educate them on the do’s and don’ts to maintain and operate the construction equipment.

Q 4.) Core competence of Universal construction that gives it an edge over others?
One of the core competency of Universal is manufacturing Quality Construction Equipment which gives it a edge over the others.Universal has heavily invested in German and Japanese Robotic Welding Systems, to attain the highest level of Welding Quality which is comparable with any top International Manufacturer.Universal Research and Development center has adopted the latest design software for designing the construction equipment. Universal has also invested on the latest Quality Control Equipment/Instruments to achieve the highest Quality as per the International norms. Universal’s Technical and Development team has closely worked with Customers/End users to understand their requirement for better products with better Technology.
