Bigger, Better, Faster: The New Chapter in India’s Construction Story
Known as the second largest contributor to India’s GDP after agriculture, the Indian construction sector contributes almost 8% to our GDP, and is at the cusp of disruptive change. With rising residential, commercial and industrial growth, the demand for faster and world-class quality construction is on the brim. According to Colliers Research, with Government of India’s ambitious “Housing for All Mission 2022” and persistent delivery delay issue marring the industry, the need for effective construction technology and demand for new and improved methods, now has a stronger play in expediting this process and ensuring private developer’s participation.
The use of aluminium shuttering is not native to the real estate sector. However, Lodha Group has exceeded industry benchmarks and created a new milestone for this technology in the construction of large, high rise developments.
Two examples, which talk about Lodha Group’s focus on using technology such as aluminium shuttering and formwork to ensure timely and speedy construction include:
Lodha Amara: Over 2,200 homes are ready for possession, 8 months ahead of schedule.
By adopting advanced construction technologies and methods, the project has completed construction of an entire tower in just 30 months v/s conventional outcome of approximately 40 months.
Upper Thane: It generally takes at least 30 days to set up the 1st slab from the date of material delivery at site. However, the team has created a national record of reducing the construction span from 30 days to just 8 days. Global comparisons indicate that the lowest time for setting up of 1st slab have been 25 days in countries like Korea, Singapore, Malaysia.
