Sustainability and the circular economy are becoming top priorities. And Peikko Group is committed to sustainability. The construction industry will have to respond to enormous pressures for efficiency and sustainability. Demands are increasingly being made not only on capabilities and speed of the construction process, but of the whole lifecycle management of buildings, starting from planning to eventual demolition or re-use of structures. I believe that the building industry’s main concern will be the most efficient use of the already existing construction materials and most likely we will find new ways of using the materials and making them more resistant and environmental-friendly.

We are focused on the environment and sustainability and as part of its corporate strategy; the company is committed to the Circular Economy. We want the building industry to be a part of the solution and not the problem.

Peikko was the first company to conduct extensive research and devise a system for the usage of vertical structural elements. In case of precast connections, the main advantage of Peikko system, with proven verification of the capacity and safety, is that temporary supports are no longer needed and thus the construction process can be greatly accelerated. It is no longer necessary to wait for the injection materials to get hardened; it is possible to maintain the continuity of seamless work without stoppage.

STRIFF® Shear dowels are a solution for transferring shear loads in movement joints.

It is a versatile connection that offers load-bearing properties with easy installation and without disturbing cracking noises during longitudinal or transverse movement of structures by e.g. temperature differences. The heavy-duty dowels are designed to meet the requirements of high loads and wide joint widths. The option of wide joint widths enables using shear dowels with components that have high temperature differences. The special shape and the steel-concrete composite structure of heavy-duty dowels enable these special properties.

Consequently, a massive amount of infrastructure will have to be built to provide housing, workspace, entertainment and communication means to the rapidly increasing population. At the same time, the amount of available natural resources and energy will remain constant. Therefore, the construction industry will have to respond to an enormous pressure to improve efficiency. And not only efficiency and the speed of the construction process, but of the whole lifecycle management of buildings, starting from planning and ending with the demolition or re-use of structures.
