Helping our Customers to Significantly Grow Their Business

Norbert Wirth - Managing Director, Haver IBAU india Pvt. Ltd.

Can you just brief our audience with your projects and how far has company come since its inception?

HAVER IBAU INDIA is a 100% subsidiary of the German company Haver & Boecker and we are a supplier of complete processing solutions in the cement-, chemical-, food- and building material industry. We manufacture high quality storing, handling, packing and dispatching solutions for bulk and liquid products such as cement, building materials & minerals, chemicals or foodstuffs. In India, we are manufacturing machines  for the Indian market according the requirements of Indian customers. In India machines needs to be robust, easy to handle and easy to maintain and at the same time guarantee the highest standards in accuracy, performance and environmental friendliness. The filling technology is the same used in the German machines. The main difference is that the equipment produced in Germany are designed for a fully automated bagging processes which is currently not required in India. In India we are producing machines that are semi-automatic and this is the first step towards the full automation later. The machines produced are cheaper than the imported ones and of course they are coming with full service offering.

How different is India as a market than other countries that you work in?

In India, there are two things to put into consideration. One is the development of automation and the other is the standards for environment as well as health safety and security. India is still using a lot of manpower and the whole value chain is depending on manual work and can’t be automated overnight. But we feel this will change very soon. In India the market is developing quickly and clients need more and more quality outcome as they export to other countries. A lot of our Indian customers are producing world class products but their packing is not up to their export customer’s requirements which lowers their export potential significantly. Export customers are expecting to receive clean, accurately filled bags without spillage. And that’s where we have come into the place.  With great happiness we are experiencing the current development by the Indian Government of improving environmental as well as health and safety standards. You can see similar developments in China where the Government is very strict there when it comes to environment, safety and security. Lately the Chinese Government has shut down manufacturers which didn’t comply with the new standards which badly affected customers and suppliers. We would like that this doesn’t happen in India. Ban on plastic bags and other plastic material is giving a good indication for the new standards in India. For us at Haver & Boecker it is a paramount importance that employees and workers are being protected from material dust and that they are working in a safe and healthy environment and we are proud that our technology is contributing to this task.

So India as a country, do you think we are growing toward accepting these products or are we having like growth sector coming in?

I’m absolutely convinced about this. We had talks with many big players in India who are very much eager to invest into automated, more efficient and more environmental production processes. However we feel that nobody wants to make the first step. Many companies would rather follow a trend rather than being the trend setter. In Europe I can see a similar situation with the introduction of electric vehicles. There is no doubt that this will be the future but still many people are eager to wait and evaluate the situation before buying an electric car. But once a critical number of people are using electrical cars all other users will follow. If you ask me, in 3-5 years there will be big run for automation which will change the production in India fundamentally.

I am coming to India since the late 90s for holiday and business reasons and I have experienced lot of improvements already in terms of airports, trains transportation, automobile transportation, and infrastructures in the cities. So it’s a vast development already. The Government is progressing in the right direction with all the public housing projects, all these road projects or the airports that are being built.

So can you help our readers with one of your project or product that has bring a big change in the market already?

We already have helped many of our customers to significantly improve their packing outcome in terms of accuracy, cleanliness and volume and at the same time reducing their maintenance and operating costs. We understand that most of our Indian customers are looking into the cost of the equipment rather than calculating the benefit of an optimized production. Once this concept of “Total Cost of Ownership” has been understood, our customers very much appreciate the benefits that our machines are bringing in terms of cost saving, higher sales and happier customers. In more than 130 years Haver & Boecker has helped companies to improve their packing needs and we have gathered a lot of experience all around the world. Therefore we are not just selling equipment, we are helping our customers to significantly grow their business and always be a technology leader in their field in terms of all the packing activities.
