Market for Concrete Equipment in India

Wilfried Theissen, MD, Putzmeister India

The demand for concrete pumps – Stationary Concrete Pumps and Truck Mounted Boom Pumps – has maintained a good growth trajectory till 2018. 2019 has seen the market shrink a bit, due in large part to liquidity concerns brought on by the NBFC crisis. We were not expecting an uptick before Q3 of this calendar year. And only in the coming weeks and months will we see the impact of COVID 19 on economic activity and the Government’s priorities. In the long term there will be a growing market for concrete pumps.
Batching Plants and Transit Mixers demand has also been growing over the years. As the penetration of RMC in India, the market will continue to see growth.
Putzmeister Concrete Solutions
Putzmeister is a market leader in both Stationary Concrete Pumps and Truck Mounted Boom Pumps. We have over 60 years of experience across a range of applications and application conditions. And we follow a policy of continuous R&D, investing 5% of our annual global turnover in developing our product lines and upgrading the technology that powers our pumps.
We are the market leaders in the concrete pumps market around the world. Our line of Stationary Concrete Pumps (BSAs) and Truck Mounted Boom pumps (BSFs) are globally renowned for their performance, efficiency, reliability, durability and ease of operation and maintenance. They have set and broken many world records in concrete pumping, often those set by our own pumps.
Our Stationary Concrete Pumps are available in a wide range of output delivery pressure options to manage regular and high-performance pumping jobs. Customers rate the performance of our pumps as better than that of other pumps. They also rate the technology and after-sales support highly. Our pumps have worked on a broad range of jobsites across India in real estate as well as all major infrastructure projects.
The relatively quieter pumping action, the manoeuvrability and flexibility of the Z fold/ RZ fold boom arm and the One SideSupport (OSS) feature, make our Truck Mounted Concrete pumps the ideal choice for inner city projects. These pumps are designed to withstand long operating hours in harsh and difficult conditions. The pumps are also known for their ruggedness and ability to handle tough grades of concrete, making them ideal for infrastructure projects.
The latest addition to our offering in India is the BSF 47-5, our five armed 47 meter Truck Mounted Boom Pump the biggest on the road in India. We are also in the process of rolling out Putzmeister Machine Cockpit, an advanced telematics solution, that will help fleet owners track the performance, output, fuel consumption and location of their machines at any point. Remote fault diagnosing will allow for quicker problem solving, and analytics will help the machine owner improve the machine performance and uptime.
Putzmeister/Sany Batching Plants and Transit Mixers
We recently came together with Sany and started offering our customers a combined range of Batching Plants and Transit Mixers. Our Batching Plants are known for their higher output, ability to handle tough concrete mixers, safety and convenient fully automated operations. We introduced MT 0.35, our 20 m3/hr Batching Plant at Excon 2019. We now offer Batching Plants in 20 m3/hr, 30 m3/hr, 60 m3/hr, 90 m3/hr, 120- 360 m3/hr.
Government Support for the Sector
Government led Infrastructure and Housing projects account for a large part of the growth of the concrete equipment market in recent years. They have an ambitious vision for this country. But till the ongoing liquidity issues brought on by the NBFC crisis is resolved, the industry will continue going up a lot slower. And this naturally impacts the achievement of the goals set by the Government. Delays continue to be a problem, and there is high tolerance for cost overruns.
While the Budget 2020 did introduce measures that will help in the industry in the medium to long term, the immediate outlook is of the slowdown continuing. And we are also faced with the uncertainties and shifting priorities in the face of COVID 19. We believe the Government needs to do more. And once the ongoing crisis has been managed, the Government should organise a dialogue with the industry and its financiers and work out a resolution to the liquidity issues. And clear out systemic bottlenecks and delays in payments. n
