Foundation Stone For Redevelopment
The Vice President also laid the foundation stone for redevelopment of Netaji Nagar as part of the Government’s plan to redevelop seven old General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) colonies for central government employees.
NBCC, the Navratna CPSE under Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, will be the implementing and marketing agency for both the projects.
Among those present at the ceremony were Shri Hardeep S. Puri, Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Smt Meenakshi Lekhi, Member of Parliament, Shri Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, and Dr Anoop Kumar Mittal, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NBCC along with senior officials of the Ministry and NBCC.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu stated that redevelopment of colonies is the best way forward to end shortages of houses. “India is witnessing rapid urbanisation as millions of people aspire to look for better standards of living. As a result, cities and towns will undergo transformation in coming years.”
He urged authorities to ensure quality construction of the two projects within a specified time-frame.
Shri Hardeep S. Puri said New Delhi could emerge as the world’s most populous city by 2028. Hence the government has embarked upon planned urbanisation. “The WTC in Nauroji Nagar and redevelopment of GPRA colony in Netaji Nagar are the most powerful expression of transforming and greening of the national capital.”
Shri Durga Shanker Mishra said that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs will review the progress of both projects every quarter. “Use of innovative design and construction technologies along with environmental rejuvenation will be essential features of the projects.” he added.
The WTC with approx. 60 lakh sq feet of built up area would house 12 commercial towers in a state-of-the-art commercial hub spread across 25 acres. It will have all the modern facilities, an aesthetically-designed facade and a pleasing landscape. For Nauroji Nagar project, NBCC has obtained accreditation from the World Trade Centre Association, New York which will be first-of-its-kind in the Delhi NCR region.
As on date, NBCC has already sold nearly 3.4 lakh sqft office space in two of the towers for approx. Rs 1,400 crore to PFC, HDFC, HPCL, SIDBI, Energy Efficiency Services, RITES etc.
The commercial hub will have integrated building management systems, smart features for lighting, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), safety and security systems besides modern waste management systems.
Dr Anoop Kumar Mittal said that the WTC is one of the most prestigious projects for NBCC. Giving details of the project and the modern technologies being implemented he added “It will change the skyline of New Delhi. We will complete the project within two to three years and minimise impact on the environment as the construction progresses.”
To be built at a cost of Rs 32,000 crore, all the three colonies namely Nauroji Nagar, Netaji Nagar and Sarojini Nagar assigned to NBCC for redevelopment, shall be completed by 2022.
The integrated business hub at Nauroji Nagar will have independent offices with direct connectivity from airport, railway and metro stations, retail outlets, food court, conference facilities, business centres, art galleries and three-layered basement parking for 8,014 cars.
The Netaji Nagar redevelopment of 110 acres will be for General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) and General Pool Office Accommodation (GPOA) for central government. Equipped with Smart City sustainable features, the high rise project will have seamlessly integrated green landscape with two-level basement parking for 3,500 cars.
There will be shopping centres, efficient management of energy and water resources along with central air conditioning and IT-enabled office environment.
Sarojini Nagar colony shall also be redeveloped vertically as GPRA and shall have commercial space for sale.
NBCC is the only public sector enterprise in realty space which redevelops properties for the government.
